Liner Notes

Steve Karos has been a staple in the New York City music scene since 2003.

He has performed at Mamapalooza, Hudson Guild, Snack, Kidville, La Sports Club, All Souls Church, FAO Schwarz,

Dylan's Candy Bar, Central Park Zoo, Cathedral School, Rockefeller University, Jodi's Gym and many other venues.

A proud father and a family music man. He can be found playing to large groups of children on a daily basis.

This is Steve's 4th family music album and first collaboration with critically acclaimed producer Dan Siegler. Mr Mom and the

Melody Makers is a slight departure from Steve's previous repertoire. There's a notable difference in the arrangements,

harmonies, quality of sound and overall musicianship on this record. According to Steve, "Dan's input really made the music

shine. His skills as a musician, arranger, songwriter and top notch producer really helped to bring out the best in me and

everyone else around him."

In addition to Dan’s virtuoso musicality, Steve also joined up with blues guitarist VJ Brown. A talented young NY native

who’s playing helped give the songs a rich, textured, rootsy Americana type feel. “He added a lot of warmth and depth

to the album”, said Steve. “His playing gave us that gritty human touch that we we’re really looking for”.

Drum guru and TV star Joey Cassata also teamed up for this project. Famous for his show Z Rock on IFC, and for his

previous power house band ZO2, Joey can be heard putting his heart in soul into every song on this album. “I’ve known

Joey for a long time” said Steve. “We played together in rock bands and later on in the family music circuit. His career

really took off with Z Rock. I was lucky enough to catch him on a break, and he did me a huge favor by laying down the

drum tracks. I couldn’t have done this record without him. He’s a great friend and one of the most talented musicians I know.”

Singer/Songwriter Tamish Bates also makes her appearance. You can hear her background vocals and lush harmonies

all over this album. In addition to being a top notch professional, she has a soulful quality that brings warmth and depth to

the music and really takes it to another level. According to Steve, “We didn’t want just anyone to sing back up vocals on this

album. We we’re looking for a more retro kind of 50’s swing style arrangement. I was in and out of touch with a few different

singers, but in comes Tamish and she just nailed it! She came up with this harmony arrangement for Polly Wolly Doodle, and

I swear when I closed my eyes in the studio I thought The Andrews Sisters were in front of me! She’s such a deep soulful singer,

that when you hear her you feel like you’ve gone back to the big band era.”

Mr Mom and the Melody Makers is a true family music album. Adults will appreciate the depth and subtlety, the kids

will love the festive intensity. Steve and Dan really went through great lengths to make sure the music had a lot of layers and diversity to it.

There are many fun light hearted songs on the album, such as "Your Birthday" and "Mr Mom", other songs like "Helping Hand" and

"Everyday Superhero" have a much deeper perspective. Regardless of your age, there's guaranteed to be something on this album that

you'll love. From the soaring Beetlesque harmonies to the Elvis styled rockabilty there's

definitely a song on here for you!
